MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DRAFTSPERSON | FULL TIME

We are seeking a skilled in-house Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson to join our Cairns-based team. This role focuses on producing detailed technical drawings and CAD models for custom tensile structure projects including shade sails, awnings, and related fabric structures.

You will work closely with engineers, designers, and production teams to translate concepts, site measurements, and engineering requirements into accurate, production-ready drawings.
This is a hands-on drafting role in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, offering the opportunity to contribute to innovative and high-quality structural fabric projects.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical, Structural, or related engineering/drafting field
• Minimum 3 years’ experience using AutoCAD (SolidWorks highly regarded)
• Strong ability in 2D and 3D technical drawing production
• Experience in technical drafting within manufacturing, construction, or fabrication industries
• Exposure to tensile structures, awnings, shade sails, or textile structures is highly regarded
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under deadlines
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Experience working with engineering teams is an advantage
• Valid Australian working rights (sponsorship available for suitable candidates)

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for tensile structures, awnings, and custom fabric systems
• Translate site measurements, design briefs, and engineering inputs into accurate technical drawings for fabrication and installation
• Prepare drawings and documentation for review and approval by qualified structural engineers
• Assist engineers by preparing CAD models and technical documentation as required
• Maintain accurate drawing files, revisions, and project documentation
• Support standardisation of design templates and manufacturing drawings
• Liaise with in house production and onsite installation teams to ensure drawings meet practical fabrication requirements
• Attend project discussions to understand client requirements and design intent
• Ensure all drawings comply with relevant Australian standards under engineering supervision
• Contribute to continuous improvement of drafting and design processes within the business
